The 2018 Lindley Gravel Grind – Post Race Summary

Lindley is a small town in the Free State, complete with friendly people, picturesque scenery, charm, as well as being famous as both the birth place of Springbok rugby player Danie Craven and ProNutro.

And like the town of Lindley, a place that captures your heart and won’t let go, the same can be said of the inaugural Lindley Gravel Grind, that captured the riding spirit of the riders who entered. The race consisted of two loops, that encompassed a total distance of 230km from start to finish.

On Friday, excitement was abuzz as riders slowly started arriving at the Lindley Hotel, our hosts for the duration of the weekend. With the riders briefed, everyone got ready for the all-night race.

The race kicked off on Friday at 17:00, to great fanfare from both supporters and the locals from Lindley. And, at the strike of the church bell, the riders set off. As nightfall approached so did a storm from Arlington, which was where the riders were headed.

The winners for the race landed bright and early at the finish line in front of the Lindley Hotel at just past 6am on Saturday morning, with the final two riders coming in just before noon, beating the cut off by mere minutes whilst becoming the Laterne Rouge recipients of the race.

Safe riding,
From the Massive Adventures and Lindley Gravel Grind teams.
